For our customer ING, we are looking for an Experienced API Developer with Geo Background (Freelance – Brussels / Remote)
Location: Brussels (1 day onsite/week)
Duration: 6 months to start, with a strong likelihood of extension
Languages: Dutch or French required
Start: As soon as possible
We are currently looking for an experienced API Developer, ideally with a background in geospatial technologies, to support a public sector customer in Brussels. This is a long-term freelance assignment (initial 6 months), with an expected 1 day per week onsite presence and the rest remote.
About the Project
The assignment involves guiding and supporting junior developers while developing modern APIs to replace the existing geo web services currently used to expose geospatial data (e.g., WMS and WFS). The API development must adhere to the Geonovum standards for government APIs, as described here: Geonovum API Strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop APIs that allow for efficient geo data exchange
Apply API standards defined by Geonovum
Mentor junior developers and provide technical guidance
Ensure security, user management, and best practices are implemented in the APIs
Collaborate with stakeholders to improve existing architecture and data access methods
Required Skills
Proven experience in API development
Preferably a background in geo-related technologies
Familiarity with GeoServer, WMS/WFS, Tomcat, and Java is a plus
Understanding of geospatial data accessibility (e.g., via geo.be or geopunt.be portals)
Knowledge of API security, access control, and performance optimization
Comfortable working in Dutch or French (both are acceptable)
